Montalban Quintet is an unusual and quite accomplished outfit.  On it’s surface, they appear to be a jazz group  – albeit with 7 members and not the 5 you’d expect.  But their repertoire is really so much more than that, delving into Ethiopian groove funk and abstract atmospheric jams.  I was surprised to discover that these guys have been playing together for close to 10 years since I discovered them only recently.  It’s really wonderful to see such talented musicians playing such creative and unique things and keeping it going for so long.  Enjoy!
