Check this out. Harley Magsino has one of the most unique and original groups playing jazz in San Diego right now. His trio with Joshua White and Charles Weller grooves with fusion sensibilities, a heaviness that even gets into prog-rock territory at times, and lots of subtle voicings and intonations to keep you interested. All three of these guys are regular players in San Diego’s jazz scene, and you’ll see them pop up in lots of groups around town, but nothing quite like this. They don’t have shows that often as the Harley Magsino Trio, but you can catch them this Thursday 4/23 at the Seven Grand Whiskey Bar in North Park. I’m planning on going and I suggest you do also.
They played a rare acoustic set for us, getting much more quiet and mellow than I have ever seen them perform. You can hear Josh making the house piano at Rarefied Recording sound particularly special. Enjoy!
